The whole id software attitude started to move away from being and wanting to be the alpha and became just one little among the many. He locked us down to 60fps console level (idtech4), then he removed dynamic lighting and high quality textures (idtech5), then he went to work for facebook. He was (and perhaps still is) a very talented game engine programmer, then things went downhill. Thunderstruck, but I have a different issue with JC and also this game as well.

That said i hope that DOOM won't fail, cause if it does, it will be hard for id software to recover, and i don't want this company to die because they made already the best arena-fps ever, doom and quake, so they don't deserver to die just because of that :), and also maybe if there is Quake 5 planned (i keep dreaming) Doom 1 can be appealing to all audience, as long as you don't play against much better opponents all the time and that there are tutorials and different difficulty levels for the single player, for all kind of players. I'm probably a bit naive but I think that doom 1 with 2016 graphics could still do that role with matchmaking etc. TBH they should have just made a pure doom 1 remake, with same walking speed, same pace, huge maps and levels, lots and lots of monsters/daemons, but we are in 2016 and the industry has changed, now it's all about $$$$$$$$$$, so they have to satisfy the console and casual players. it's not even 80% quake, which is not a surprise at all.

That said I seriously hope DOOM will not fail and will sell well and have great success amongst the 'casual' gamers, and that with snapmap etc the community will improve it on PC.įrom what I've seen, the game looks OK really, but. Not saying it's bad, cause I actually prefer it over overwatch, mainly because of the weapons and the quake-ish feeling, and doom is also one of my all time favorite in-game character :). From what i've seen in the multiple gameplay videos, it looks slow, consolish, and more casual-friendly than any other id games so far. The new DOOM is made for consoles and is mainly about $$$$$$$$$$$. Rage was a test, and even tho the game was good, it wasn't really a success, sadly. All these games were made with J.C.ĭoom 3 was a decent single player game, well, let's say it was good but not as perfect as doom 1, quake 1 and quake 3. himself, the messiah of video games) is not id software anymore.īest games id software ever made are doom 1, quake 1 and quake III arena, the rest is pretty much fail attemps. Id software without John Carmack (also known as J.C.
